This cable is commonly used for two purposes: first, to attach a workstation that has a 13W3 connector to an older workstation monitor that has BNC connectors. second, to attach a workstation with a 13W3 connector to a modern multi sync monitor that has BNC connectors. For instance you could connect a SUN Sparc station to an Iiyama monitor.
